Not that long ago, we whispered the word “cancer” when we were forced to speak it. We shunned family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc… we even suspected had HIV/AIDS and further rejected our gay communities.

We have evolved significantly past reactions of this kind.

Today, in the arena of physical illness, we more easily normalize than demonize and can distinguish our intrinsic value from our body’s symptoms.

When it comes to physical limitations of all kind, we have found some compassion for each other and ourselves.

This transformation has yet to come for mental illness.
